Overview
Due to continued growth across the team and a strong pipeline of projects, we are looking for an experienced Ecological professional to join our North East region. The role sits at the Principal or Technical Director grade and reports to the Operations Director, working closely with the European Practice Lead for Ecology and Biodiversity.
The position may be based from one of our North‑East region offices (Sheffield, Leeds or Newcastle) and will involve travel to other regions as required.
Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day management of the North East region Ecology team, including staff management, approvals, objective setting, appraisals, staff development, recruitment, and mentoring.
- Oversee financial performance of the region, including budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation.
- Coordinate project resourcing, attend weekly/monthly meetings, and provide regional updates.
- Provide project leadership on complex, high‑value projects – support and guide Project Managers and Project Directors across their portfolio to ensure timely delivery.
- Conduct regular meetings with Project Managers and Project Directors regarding their project portfolios.
- Coordinate regional strategy, aligning local priorities with national or corporate targets.
- Represent the business at industry events and within professional networks.
Qualifications
- Passion for ecology, delivering high‑quality work and supporting the development of other ecological professionals.
- Substantial ecological experience, ideally within a consulting context and across all sectors.
- Significant project management and team/people management experience.
- Relevant degree‑level qualification and appropriate level of membership of CIEEM or equivalent.
- Full driving licence valid in the UK.
