Consultant in Elderly Medicine
We invite applications for a substantive Consultant in Elderly Medicine position. The role is full time, 10 sessions per week. The closing date is 12 May 2026.
Main duties of the job
- Regular ward rounds on inpatient frailty ward, supporting junior doctors and the multidisciplinary team; attend daily MDTs.
- Named consultant for 14 inpatients plus outliers (300–350 patient reviews per month).
- General elderly clinic and a subspecialty clinic; indicative clinic numbers are 8 new and 32 reviews per month for a weekly 3‑hour clinic.
- Front‑door acute geriatrician sessions – supporting the emergency department, rapid response team and acute physicians with specialty in‑reach providing early advice and input into care and management plans of frail elderly in the acute setting.
- Supervision of junior doctors.
- Attendance and input into speciality and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
- GMC registration with licence to practice
- MRCP (or equivalent)
- Dual CCST in G (I) M and Geriatric Medicine, or within 6 months of interview, or alternative route to specialist register (e.g. CESR)
- ALS
- MD/MSc/PhD
Experience
- Wide clinical experience in general internal medicine and medicine for older people
- Experience / interest in teaching; recognised teaching skill course or qualification
- Understanding of management skills
- Relevant experience in undertaking and organising audit
- Research and publications relevant to post
