Associate Director – Modelling
Grant Thornton is looking for an Associate Director to lead financial modelling assignments across our Advisory services. You will work closely with partners, directors and clients to design, build, review and enhance Excel‑based models, support the firm’s marketing and development efforts, and coach junior team members.
Responsibilities
- Run modelling assignments and maintain strong client relationships
- Execute and review modelling work with a high degree of autonomy and expertise
- Plan and develop financial models and tools for clients; provide design and development assistance
- Review client and adviser‑built models, compile initial views and findings
- Update and run models to support valuations, insolvency, forensic and other advisory deliverables
- Ensure technical excellence, brand compliance and provide guidance to team members
- Prepare model specification and user guide documents to a high standard
- Manage risk on assignments, including drafting and reviewing engagement letters
- Lead new opportunity pipeline, understand client requirements and draft proposals
- Contribute to marketing efforts, attend networking events, prepare presentations and collateral
- Contribute to reports prepared by other Advisory teams (e.g., Due Diligence, Corporate Finance, Restructuring)
- Manage time and resources, deliver work within budgets, monitor costs and advise partners or clients as appropriate
- Provide coaching and training to junior team members
- Contribute to the operational and interpersonal success of the team
Qualifications
- Experience in a directly comparable Big4 or similar modelling team
- Currently holding a senior manager or equivalent grade
- Excellent Excel proficiency and familiarity with advanced techniques
- Strong understanding of modelling best practice ideas
- Highly numerate with strong communication skills
- Logical problem‑solving approach, attention to detail, and a track record of client collaboration
- Strong accounting skills and understanding of cash and working‑capital cycles
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in a numerate degree; ACA or CA qualified or equivalent
- Experience of coaching and/or mentoring other professionals
- Defined specialism in a relevant industry sector or modelling specialism (e.g., operational change, restructuring) desirable
- Experience with VBA programming or PowerBI
- Experience of business development and relationship building
