The role
As part of SSEN Transmission’s Pathway to 2030 programme of works and beyond, we are looking for a Civil Project Engineer to join the HVDC team. You will help drive forward our projects and bring big ideas, new skills, and innovative thinking to grow our teams and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Many of our projects are in the Highlands, Western Isles, and Aberdeenshire, so a willingness to travel to that area or being locally based is desirable.
You will
- Be responsible for Civil Engineering design and delivery on assigned projects with typical capital values of £200M – £2B.
- Provide technical input for your specialist discipline as well as interfacing with other technical and project functions to ensure a coordinated approach to project delivery and identification and resolution of key risks.
- Promote and manage safety within assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and safety in design as part of your role as Civil Project Engineer, fulfilling the role of Designer or Principal Designer under CDM.
- Take responsibility for defining the scope of civil engineering design and validating and verifying civil engineering designs, providing ongoing civil engineering support during delivery stages of assigned projects including dealing with RFIs, TQs, and PMIs.
- Collaborate with contractors, consultants, and multi‑disciplinary teams to coordinate and develop robust preliminary, outline, detailed, and construction‑level design information with delivery partners.
- Provide site support as required during the construction phase, including site supervision, resolution of design/construction issues, identification of non‑conformances/quality issues, and close‑out of issues.
You have
- Degree‑qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally with Chartered status (CEng) or working towards it.
- Experience using digital design platforms (e.g. Infraworks, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks) to support design development and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Good understanding of industry standards, design codes, technical specifications, and their practical application.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, with a proactive approach to resolving constructability challenges and improving on‑site delivery.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly, alongside a collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working across multidisciplinary teams throughout the full project lifecycle.
