What is involved?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well‑organised individual who has excellent presentation skills and the ability to work flexibly. The role will support the work of the Strategic Waste Management Team by delivering key waste hierarchy messages related to the Resources and Waste Strategy for England, 2018, at a local level in County Durham. It involves the implementation of the Waste Prevention Programme for England, focusing on the reduction of key material streams such as electrical items, textiles, furniture, food, plastics and single‑use items.

  • Identify and implement waste management projects across County Durham with an emphasis on waste prevention, reuse, recycling and composting activities.
  • Promote and deliver projects through county‑wide communications, community engagement and education activities.
  • Arrange and undertake roadshows, awareness events and liaise with key partners such as schools, community groups, local networks, residents’ associations and independent groups.

What will I need?

Experience in the waste management sector and a proven track record of delivering waste management projects and campaigns.

  • HND/HNC or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent IT and presentation skills.
  • Strong time‑management capabilities.
