Responsibilities
Designs, coordinates, and implements highly complex process sampling systems, procedures, statistical techniques, and quality systems. Develops process improvement and cost control programs throughout the plant. Performs review of customer/industry/internal specifications to ensure processes meet or exceed requirements. Provides technical support to operations, customers, and suppliers as needed. Performs supervisory duties and provides customer‑requirement training to employees. Completes Quality Engineering assignments with minimal supervision. Defines, specifies, and implements quality standards and procedures for manufacturing processes. Executes the development, implementation, and improvement of the appropriate Quality Management System throughout the operation, providing advanced quality planning support in the development and launch of new products, processes, and services. Provides technical advice and counsel to cross‑functional teams assigned to process improvement projects and guides less experienced engineers. Analyzes organizational quality metrics, evaluates results, and recommends action plans. Develops and analyzes statistical data and product/process performance to recommend and implement improvements. Prepares corrective action reports as necessary and assists in the investigation and elimination of root causes of quality problems. Develops and implements corrective actions and hosts source inspectors and/or customer auditors as needed. Prepares and presents material to customer representatives and/or facility employees as required. Supports the Supply Chain Management organization in the collection and analysis of supplier quality data, providing expertise and assisting suppliers with product and process quality requirements. Formulates and implements quality assurance procedures, policies, and standards. Participates in and leads the auditing of the internal Quality System, supervising other personnel as assigned or required. Handles training and performance reviews of subordinate staff. Provides support and/or leads any improvement team activities. Evaluates process variables such as capability, MSA, SPC out‑of‑control conditions, and process audit findings. Works in conjunction with the Divisional Supplier Development team to understand and mitigate supplier risk, supporting supplier audits to ensure conformance with Customer, AS9100, Part 21G, and other third‑party requirements. Ensures timely closure of WISPER 8Ds from internal and external supplier non‑conforming material and supports the business in recovering the cost of poor quality from the supply chain.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and three years of experience in a manufacturing environment are required; an equivalent of ten (10) years of manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of the degree and experience. The candidate must be able to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and requirements. Knowledge of machining, assembly operations, gauging, SPC, APQP, and quality assurance systems (ISO 9001, AS9100) is essential. Proficiency with a PC configured with MS Windows OS and familiarity with MS Office software are desired. Six‑Sigma Green Belt training and knowledge of APQP and PAPP are advantageous. The applicant should possess a thorough understanding of problem‑solving methods—including Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems, evaluate, and complete improvement projects—and a detailed understanding of the key phases and requirements of an effective new product development and launch methodology. Detailed knowledge of industry‑specific quality registration schemes and certification processes (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO/TS‑16949, AS9100) is required, along with lead audit experience and detailed knowledge of auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined quality requirements. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, process variation reduction (Six Sigma capability studies, MSA), and tool sets related to process/product variability, root cause, and corrective action determination is essential. The candidate must also have detailed knowledge of product and end‑user application/specifications, including product testing requirements, design/process interface, and product material properties. Proficiency in engineering design and product reliability concepts and tool sets is required. Finally, the applicant must be able to supervise and direct other departmental personnel for specified tasks assigned by management.
