Job Summary

Hanham Health is looking for a Senior Practice Manager to lead the delivery of high‑quality services across four GP practices (Hanham, Oldland, Almondsbury and Pilning). The role requires a proven track record in primary care or the NHS, leadership of multidisciplinary teams, and experience in governance, financial oversight and system partnership work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day operational management of all four practices.
  • Ensure safe, high‑quality service delivery across clinical and operational teams.
  • Provide visible leadership to multidisciplinary teams, fostering a positive, inclusive and high‑performing culture.
  • Lead on governance, risk management, quality improvement and compliance with CQC, NHS and UK legislation.
  • Act as the focal point for inspections and external scrutiny.
  • Coordinate between clinical and operational teams, support team leads in service planning, workforce deployment and performance improvement.
  • Promote quality, safety, learning and continuous improvement across services, championing ED&I, SHEF, confidentiality, safeguarding and patient safety.
  • Oversee financial budgets, contracts, claims, enhanced services and income streams, and submit QOF and enhanced services reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability and service delivery.
  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, including salaried GP workforce, and work with the head of nursing on return‑to‑work, rota issues and compliance.
  • Manage performance, appraisals, development, capability and disciplinary processes, supporting learning and development for staff.
  • Promote staff wellbeing, engagement and retention; maintain safe staffing levels and workforce planning.
  • Act as primary point of contact for NHSE, ICB, PCN, community services and suppliers; deputise for Partners at meetings; oversee the Patient Participation Group.
  • Represent practices at external forums, supporting shared learning and system‑wide initiatives.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Primary Care experience; minimum 3 years in primary care.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting and with the general public.
  • Experience in performance management, staff development and HR processes.
  • Experience in governance, quality, compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Knowledge of primary care operations, contracts, claims and financial oversight.
  • Understanding of safeguarding adults and children.
  • Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy.
  • Relevant clinical qualification and professional registration.

Desirable

  • NHS / General Practice leadership experience.
  • Experience of leading service development or transformation projects.
  • Business experience and leadership/management qualifications.
  • Associate Member or working towards full membership of IGPM.
  • HR experience.

Salary & Working Pattern

Salary: £35 per hour (£68,250 per year pro‑rated). Permanent contract, full‑time, part‑time or flexible working available.

Three sites: Hanham (33 Whittucks Road, Bristol, BS15 3HY), Oldland (192 High Street, Oldland Common, Bristol, BS30 9QQ), Almondsbury (Sundays Hill, Almondsbury, Bristol, BS32 4DS), Pilning (Northwick Road, Pilning, Bristol, BS35 4JF).
