Job Summary
Data Scientist – London, UK. Lead data science projects, generate insights from PayPal’s data, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, mentor junior scientists, and drive strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage data science projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
- Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and reporting systems to support analysis and decision‑making.
- Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand data needs and provide actionable insights.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through regular audits and validation processes.
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists, fostering continuous learning and improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in Marketing, Product, Sales, Portfolio, and Finance to achieve business objectives using data‑driven solutions.
- Aggregate PayPal’s large datasets and build data pipelines for reports and dashboards.
- Develop insights in customer segmentation, product usage, marketing campaigns, and portfolio behaviour.
- Design and analyze A/B tests and experiments to evaluate product and marketing initiatives, translating results into clear recommendations.
- Identify key metrics and build executive‑facing dashboards to track progress of the business.
- Work with Legal and Compliance to achieve regulatory objectives, including Consumer Duty compliance.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) and 5+ years of relevant experience.
- 8+ years in a data science/analytics role in consumer credit (credit cards, personal loans, BNPL, neobank, etc.) with diverse datasets and stakeholders.
- Strong experience with SQL, Tableau (dashboard creation), and Python. Familiarity with AI and LLM‑based tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with non‑technical stakeholders and translate complex problems into actionable solutions.
- Good understanding of financial products and payments data, ideally in a regulated environment.
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues or leading a small team.
- A degree in a quantitative field is highly desirable but not mandatory.
