About the Role
Join The Farndon Unit as the Medical Lead and provide care for women with complex mental health needs. In this role you will drive clinical excellence, ensure safe and effective care, and champion a trauma‑informed, recovery‑focused culture across the unit.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and ensure high‑quality standards of care and fidelity to the clinical model.
- Champion a positive, recovery‑focused and trauma‑informed culture, influencing practice across the unit.
- Represent the medical team in governance meetings, service‑development discussions and external stakeholder forums.
- Oversee medical input into audits, QI projects and service evaluations to embed learning and improvement into everyday practice.
- Offer professional leadership, supervision and support to Consultant Psychiatrists and Associate Specialists within the service.
- Coordinate medical cover and ensure safe, effective clinical staffing across the unit.
- Lead medical workforce processes, including recruitment, induction and appraisal.
- Act as Responsible Clinician for up to 15 inpatients across both the rehabilitation ward and the low‑secure service.
- Perform psychiatric assessments for women referred to the unit.
- Provide oral and written evidence at First‑tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearings.
- Deliver evidence‑based treatment approaches in line with NICE guidance.
- Manage medication and co‑produce therapeutic treatment plans with service users.
- Participate in the 1 in 8 on‑call rota covering two tiers of support to nine units across the Midlands and Yorkshire, predominantly remote telephone support.
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status.
- Clinical training and experience required for gaining UK CCT.
- Experience in assessment and management of patients in psychiatric rehabilitation settings.
- Experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist with proven ability to provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated engagement in service development or governance activities; prior formal management experience desirable but not essential.
