Role Overview

As a Systems Analyst within Hiscox you will create and deliver solutions that address business needs through the efficient exploitation of new and existing technology capabilities. You will ensure solutions work end‑to‑end, improving user experience and productivity while minimising total cost of ownership. This role spans all stages of the delivery process, from ideation, requirements gathering, and analysis to build, test and deployment, and involves creating low‑level solutions and technical specifications while providing direction to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the solution technical specification, developing a detailed understanding of business requirements and documenting the technical requirements as user stories and functional specifications with acceptance criteria.
  • Develop strong relationships with business stakeholders, subject‑matter experts, and internal and external technical colleagues at all levels.
  • Elicit requirements and understand the needs and processes of non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Help steer business thinking to minimise complexity and maximise reuse.
  • Work with Product Owners, Solution Architects, developers, testers, and software vendors to develop and review solution options, ensuring all functional and non‑functional concerns are addressed.
  • Act as a trusted SME for developers and testers throughout the development process.
  • Provide guidance on solution implementation and testing.
  • Support testing activities, review results, triage failures, analyse defects, and identify underlying root causes.
  • Implement continual improvements within your sphere of influence.
  • Maximise team efficiency to deliver high‑quality technical change.

Technical Skills

  • Experience integrating complex software applications and packages, quickly mastering application functionality, workflows, and processing behaviour.
  • Strong ability to interpret and analyse source and target systems, including functional logic, data models, and data flows for accurate integration design.
  • Design, document, and review API specifications for SOAP and REST protocols, ensuring integrations are robust, scalable, and aligned with architectural standards.
  • Translate business requirements into clear, comprehensive technical designs and specifications that enable effective development.
  • Lead collaborative workshops covering requirements gathering, solution design, and problem‑solving to validate assumptions and agree on technical solutions.
  • Work closely with third‑party software vendors, technology partners, and software houses to ensure integrations meet functional, technical, and contractual expectations.
  • Explain complex technical concepts, challenges, and design implications to non‑technical stakeholders in a clear, accessible manner.

Nice to Have

  • Understanding of database schemas and experience writing SQL.
  • Previous exposure to the insurance or regulated financial services industries.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud architecture principles and components.
