Family Solicitor – Luton, Bedfordshire
Full Time | £35,000 – £50,000 per annum (DOE)

Our client is a well-established family law firm with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, client-focused legal services. Their team of specialist solicitors works across a range of family law matters, including domestic abuse, children law, and complex financial disputes.
They are now seeking a Family Solicitor (NQ–3 PQE) to join their Luton office. The firm is open to both traditional employed roles and consultant / fee-share arrangements, depending on the candidate’s experience and preference.
Role Overview
You will manage a varied caseload of family law matters, including both Legal Aid and private work. Matters include:
- Divorce and Financial Remedy Proceedings
- Private and Public Children Law cases
- Domestic abuse matters and emergency injunctions
- Cohabitation disputes and TOLATA claims
- Schedule 1 Children Act applications
- Pre-nuptial agreements and related family matters
Essential Requirements
- NQ–3 years PQE in Family Law
- Strong working knowledge of Legal Aid processes, including eligibility assessments and applications
- Experience handling family law casework (public and/or private)
- Ability to manage a caseload independently with appropriate supervision where needed
- Strong drafting, advocacy preparation, and client care skills
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Competence using case management systems and general IT tools
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
- Professional, reliable, and able to meet deadlines consistently
Desirable Requirements
- Experience with both Legal Aid and private fee-paying work
- Existing client following or portable work
- Previous experience assisting senior solicitors on complex or high-value matters
- Exposure to billing and private client financial processes
- Broader experience across multiple areas of family law (e.g., TOLATA, Schedule 1, injunction work)
- Prior experience in a busy high-volume family law practice
- Familiarity with working in lean, fast-paced legal environments
Working Arrangement & Structure
- The role is not purely volume-driven, despite the nature of Legal Aid work
- Caseloads are designed to be manageable and appropriately supported
- There is flexibility in the balance between Legal Aid and private work, depending on experience and preference
- A structured onboarding process is provided, including initial supervision and ongoing support (particularly for junior candidates)
- Systems, infrastructure, and support arrangements can be tailored and discussed at interview stage
- Candidates will be assessed on overall suitability, capability, and fit, rather than assumptions regarding workload intensity.
