Pastoral Support Worker – Secondary

Pay: £108 – £120 per day

Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent

Long Term Futures is recruiting a compassionate and proactive Pastoral Support Worker for a full-time role within a welcoming secondary school in Wandsworth. This position is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people’s emotional well‑being, behaviour, and personal development, helping students overcome barriers to learning and thrive within the school environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with pastoral leads, teaching staff, SEN teams, and senior leadership to provide targeted support for students who may require additional guidance both academically and emotionally. The role focuses on promoting positive behaviour, attendance, engagement, and student welfare across the school.

Responsibilities

  • Providing pastoral and emotional support to students across KS3 and KS4.
  • Supporting students with behavioural, social, or emotional needs both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Building positive relationships with students to encourage engagement, confidence, and personal development.
  • Assisting with behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Supporting attendance, punctuality, and student welfare initiatives.
  • Delivering targeted interventions and mentoring sessions for identified students.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, parents/carers, and external agencies where required.
  • Monitoring and reporting on student progress, behaviour, and well‑being.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a Pastoral Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role.
  • Experience supporting secondary‑aged students is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and positive relationships quickly.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting students with additional needs or challenging behaviour.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people’s well‑being and educational outcomes.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and support team.
  • Must hold a valid enhanced DBS check on the update service.
