Overview
Brook Street is recruiting on behalf of a specialist Children and Young People’s residential care provider for a permanent Residential Support Worker role in Durham.
This position involves supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), mental health needs, and complex trauma, within a safe and therapeutic home environment.
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality, person-centred care that supports young people to feel safe, build resilience, and achieve positive outcomes, while promoting independence and emotional wellbeing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care and support within a residential setting
- Create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for young people
- Build positive and trusting relationships to support emotional development
- Promote independence, life skills, and confidence
- Support young people with education, routines, and activities
- Implement care plans and behaviour management strategies
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers, and external professionals
- Maintain accurate records and reports in line with regulatory standards
- Follow all safeguarding and child protection procedures
Skills and Experience Required
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a residential or care setting
- Understanding of EBD, trauma-informed practice, or mental health needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- A team player with a proactive and flexible approach
Qualifications
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards)
- Full UK driving licence (desirable)
Working Hours
- Full-time, permanent position
- Shift-based rota including days, evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins
