BSL Teaching Assistant

Location: Peterborough

Contract Type: Long-term placement

Pay Rate: 93- 105 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)

About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and skilled BSL (British Sign Language) 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the Peterborough area.

This rewarding role involves working closely with a Year 5 pupil who is Deaf, supporting them to access learning and fully engage in school life. You will play a key part in ensuring the pupil can communicate effectively and achieve their full potential within a mainstream classroom setting.

The school has a strong commitment to inclusive education and a nurturing learning environment, making this an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil who is Deaf, using British Sign Language to support communication
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and staff to promote inclusion and access to learning
  • Support the pupil’s academic progress, as well as their social and emotional development
  • Assist in creating a positive, engaging, and structured classroom environment
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and active participation in school activities

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with primary-aged children with SEND
  • Strong proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills A genuine passion for inclusive education and supporting children with additional needs
