Shape the future of cities and environments as an Associate Director Waste Water Process Engineer at AtkinsRéalis.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate or manage a team of Process engineers to deliver technical design work on small to complex multi-disciplinary projects.
- Ensure design work follows relevant national and project-specific codes and standards, maintaining high‑quality levels across all aspects of waste water treatment.
- Manage the production and review of technical deliverables such as design reports, process calculations, and process control philosophies.
- Develop project design deliverables for the Process discipline, coordinating with project management to meet time and budget milestones.
- Provide technical leadership within the D&AT practice and influence practice‑wide initiatives, recommending best practices to improve internal processes and services.
- Grow, develop and manage Process Engineering capabilities within the regional or national practice.
- Exercise personal judgement to solve complex problems and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues.
- Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, including internal and external clients, operational staff, and project teams.
- Advise clients, operational, project, or service activities within project teams and broader D&AT initiatives.
- Participate in technical aspects of bid proposals and offer mentorship to junior team members.
- Work across the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Adhere to quality assurance standards, reviewing own work and that of others.
Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer, preferably IChemE or CIWEM.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent (e.g., Environmental, Water and Waste Water Engineering).
- In‑depth knowledge and broad expertise in waste water treatment processes and principles (preliminary to quaternary, sludge treatment, emissions, odour, carbon and energy management).
- Experience in the UK Water Industry and leading large‑scale Process engineering design delivery in a design consultancy setting.
- Demonstrated ability to identify innovative solutions and challenge the status quo.
- Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Expert knowledge of current design codes, standards, and industry best practices, including CDM Regulations.
- Experience with UK safety and environmental regulations, process safety techniques (e.g., HAZOP), capital and operational cost assessment, risk assessment, and whole‑life carbon assessments.
- Proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and shared success.
