37 hours per week – Monday to Friday (Typically 8:00-17:00, with a 12:00 finish on Fridays)

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex, high-value government projects and programmes. This is a pivotal, client-facing role with full accountability for project performance, commercial outcomes, and stakeholder engagement. You will operate at both a strategic and operational level, working closely with senior leadership, clients, and cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Project & Programme Leadership: Lead the delivery of complex, multi-million-pound projects and/or programmes from initiation through to completion; Provide strategic leadership across cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery; Act as the primary escalation point for major risks and issues.
- Commercial & Financial Management: Full accountability for project P&L and financial performance; Drive cost control, forecasting, and margin improvement; Lead commercial negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
- Stakeholder & Client Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders; Provide clear, executive-level reporting to clients and leadership; Manage expectations and resolve complex challenges effectively.
- Governance, Risk & Compliance: Establish and maintain robust project governance structures; Ensure compliance with NEC contract requirements and regulatory standards; Lead risk identification, assessment, and mitigation activities.
- Planning, Delivery & Execution: Oversee project planning using tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project; Ensure effective resource planning, scheduling, and delivery coordination; Drive performance against cost, quality, safety, and programme targets.
- Leadership & People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and wider teams; Build high-performing, collaborative project environments; Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence.
- Business Improvement & Strategy: Support bid and tender activities, including risk and commercial input; Contribute to business strategy and continuous improvement initiatives; Identify opportunities to enhance delivery performance and processes.
About You
You will be a commercially astute and strategically minded project professional with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
Essential
- Formal Project Management qualification (APM, PMI or equivalent).
- Degree or HND in Engineering, Construction, or related discipline.
- Proven experience managing complex, high-value or multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4).
- Demonstrated P&L responsibility and commercial acumen.
- Experience leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
Desirable
- Chartered status (APM, PMI or equivalent).
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g. rail, nuclear, MOD).
- Experience supporting bids and tenders.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
