Job Description:

TeamJobs is seeking an experienced and skilled CNC Grinder to join our client’s team in Yeovil. The successful candidate will be responsible for grinding aerospace components in strict accordance with manufacturing instructions, specifications, and regulatory requirements.

Pay and Shift Details

£19.51 per hour whilst training, rising to £29.27 once you move to the night shift.

Working Hours

Day Shift (Initial Training)

Training period Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. After training you will begin working daytime hours.

Night Shift

  • 34.5 hours per week.
  • Sunday 22:00 – Monday 07:00 (8.5 hours).
  • Monday to Thursday 00:00 – 07:00 (6.5 hours per day).

Key Responsibilities

  • Internal and external grinding using MDI (Manual Data Input) CNC machinery, including surface grinding and thread grinding.
  • Perform Operator Control of Quality (OCQ) tasks, such as stamping to confirm quality of assemblies to company and customer standards.
  • Ensure on‑time delivery by completing work to the required standard.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, follow the process layout, and complete documentation procedures.
  • Work effectively in a lean environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Engineering apprenticeship desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of grinding tolerances and finishes to aerospace standards (e.g., 0.0002 in. internal/external diameter, 2-4 micron surface finish, 0.0002 in. concentration).
  • Honing experience.Proficiency with hand‑measuring equipment: digital micrometer, comparators, air‑plug gauges, and surface finish measuring devices.
  • High standard of health and safety.
  • Adhere to company processes and procedures.
  • Work in a customer‑focused environment and achieve targets.
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers.

Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding of aerospace practice and the significance of safety‑critical work.
  • PC literate.
  • Teamwork, flexibility, and initiative.
  • Desirable machining skills.
  • Proactive and eager to develop and learn new skills, with training in PC skills, manual handling, abrasive wheels, 5S, and general health and safety.

Security and Legal Requirements

  • Full BPSS screening, including proof of legal right to work, UK DBS criminal records check, and drug screening.
  • Due to security requirements on this site, all workers must be citizens of the UK, EU, or NATO.
