About the role

An exciting permanent position has become available within the Plastic Surgery Department, working on gates 28 and 28C.

It’s a full time role, where you will work as a Ward and Assessment Unit Clerk, liaising with visitors, patients and staff and providing an efficient administration service and ensuring patient flow is co‑ordinated.

The department has a positive, enthusiastic and dynamic group of staff who need a like‑minded individual to join the team.

Main duties

The Ward and Assessment Unit Clerk will undertake all administration tasks for the ward & assessment unit & follow the Ward Clerk Job Description. Summary as below:

  • Communicate with visitors, patients, nursing and medical staff to help ward staff ensure patient care is co‑ordinated safely and effectively.
  • Ensure telephone calls and the front desk enquiries are handled appropriately and communication is effective between all concerned.
  • Ensure all medical notes are collected, collated, sourced & filed appropriately; including scanning of all assessment unit notes onto PPM.
  • Ensure the stock levels are managed and supplies are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient flow is co‑ordinated within the ward area.
  • Ensure all relevant follow‑up appointments are made for all specialities.
  • Ensure Trust values and behaviours are adhered to at all times.

Essential person specification requirements

Qualifications

  • Good general education to include CSE or GCSE in English Language and Maths or equivalent/experience.

Experience

  • Experience of working with filing systems.
  • Experience of good customer or patient care.
  • Work with IT systems.
  • Previous experience in an administration role within a healthcare setting.
  • A willingness to learn NHS computer software systems.

Knowledge and Awareness

  • Confidentiality issues.
  • Awareness of own limitations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven record of excellent filing and organisational skills.
  • Keyboard skills.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrate effective and clear written, verbal and telephone, communication skills.
  • Work with demanding workloads and prioritise tasks.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for self and others.
  • Willingness to take on tasks.
