About our Machine Learning, Financial Crime Team:
Our Financial Crime Data team consists of over 25 people across 4 data specialisms: Analytics Engineers, Data Analysts, Machine Learning Scientists and Data Scientists. We protect our users from financial crime, significantly reducing fraud costs and improving customer experience.
Our Machine Learning Scientists tackle a range of problems: fraud detection and prevention, transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment and operational tooling. We use deep learning, graph neural networks and transformers to build scalable, real‑time detection systems.
What you’ll be working on
As a Staff ML Scientist you will lead the most senior Individual Contributor role across the FinCrime collective, driving the next phase of fraud and financial crime prevention. You will:
- Lead the ongoing development of an advanced, scalable, automated fraud & FinCrime detection system that reduces wrongful impacts on genuine customers and operational costs.
- Ensure our detection systems adapt swiftly to changing fraud and financial crime trends, maintaining performance over time.
You will design the technical architecture for new solutions, encouraging experimentation and innovation while demonstrating effectiveness. You will collaborate with product, engineering and design squads and advise senior business stakeholders to advance FinCrime strategy.
You should apply if
- You have a multi‑year track record of leading the technical work of a team in developing and deploying advanced Machine Learning models for real business problems, preferably in a fast‑moving tech company.
- You have experience shipping deep learning, graph‑based, and/or sequence‑based ML architectures to production and delivering measurable impact in fraud, financial crime, security or trust and safety.
- You are impact driven and eager to own the end‑to‑end journey from business problem to production solution.
- You have a passion for mentoring other ML practitioners and raising the technical bar across the team.
- You possess a self‑starter mindset, proactively identifying and tackling high‑impact issues without direction.
- You are excited by using advanced ML techniques to minimise financial crime and protect customers from fraud.
- You have extensive experience writing production Python code, a strong command of SQL, and are willing to learn Go for backend microservices.
- You are comfortable working in ambiguous environments and helping teams resolve uncertainty.
- You want to build a product that you and others use daily and care about customer outcomes.
- You can communicate fast‑moving ML developments to non‑technical colleagues.
- You are adaptable, curious and enjoy learning new technologies.
