HGV Recovery Driver

Salary: Guaranteed minimum c. £36,044 for CE (HGV 1) licence, £32,564 for C (HGV 2) licence. Location allowance included.

On Target Earnings: £42,120 for CE, £36,600 for C licence.

Shifts: Rolling roster, 18 days out of every 28, with two full weekends off.

Standard Shift Duration: 9 hours and 45 minutes, including a 45‑minute break.

Flexibility Required: Standard shifts are under 10 hours, but end‑of‑shift flexibility is essential. You may be required to work up to 12 hours (including breaks) depending on operational needs.

Depot Postcode: CM1 3SR

Eligibility: You must live within 25 miles or within 1 hour travel from the depot.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional service by safely recovering vehicles and reassuring customers during breakdowns, helping them get back on the road quickly.
• Work independently across varied locations and conditions, while remaining a valued part of a supportive team.
• Solve problems on the spot, using technical skills and calm approach to handle a wide range of roadside situations.
• Stay solution‑focused and compliant with EU regulations and WTD, representing The AA with professionalism and a drive to always “Push for Better.”

Requirements

• A full Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence is essential; if you already hold a Category CE (HGV Class 1) licence, we’ll support you in gaining it.
• A valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and a digital tachograph card.
• Confidence using and adapting to new technology.
• Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank holidays.
