About the role

WSP’s Transport & Mobility team is looking for a Transport Modeller or Assistant Transport Modeller. The role involves developing, calibrating, validating, and forecasting transport models for public and private sector projects across the UK.

Key responsibilities

  • Developing and applying transport models, including model building, calibration, validation, and forecasting
  • Supporting or leading projects that include transport strategies, business cases, and demand forecasting
  • Analysing and interpreting complex datasets to produce actionable insights and recommendations
  • Preparing technical reports, presentations and client deliverables
  • Scoping modelling requirements and defining appropriate methodologies
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across planning, engineering and environmental services
  • Supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the transport modelling community
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to explain modelling outputs in a clear, accessible way

Required skills and experience

  • Experience developing transport models, including calibration, validation, and testing
  • Experience with at least one modelling package such as VISUM, SATURN, EMME or similar
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Understanding of UK transport policy, appraisal and transport modelling guidance (e.g., DfT TAG)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Python or other programming languages such as R, Java, C++ and GIS
  • Ability to communicate technical outputs to non‑technical audiences
  • Collaborative approach with confidence to work independently and as part of a team
