About the Role
As a Group Support Volunteer, you’ll support and encourage people affected by dementia to engage in activities and socialise with others in a group setting. You’ll welcome and talk to participants, help them feel comfortable, offer refreshments, and assist with setting up and tidying up.
Groups you can support
- Sports and Social Activity group – 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham CR4 4AB – Thursdays 14 00. Seated games led by AFC Wimbledon facilitator.
- Forget Me Nots group – Memory Merton Hub, 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham CR4 4AB – Wednesdays 10 00. Activities include arts & crafts, reminiscing through artefacts, role play and gardening.
- Lively Rhythm and Moves group – 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham CR4 4AB – Wednesdays 15 00. Chair exercises.
- Dementia Cafe – Raynes Park Library, Bradbury Court, 21 Approach Road, Raynes Park, London SW20 8RA – Mondays 09 00.
What you’ll be great for the role if:
- You have good verbal communication and listening skills.
- You enjoy meeting new people and being part of a team.
- You are aware of or willing to learn about dementia and its impact on people.
- You can demonstrate empathy and compassion.
- You are over the age of 16.
