An independent specialist provision in Nottinghamshire is seeking an experienced and dedicated Secondary Science GCSE Teacher to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly supportive SEMH setting, delivering high-quality education to pupils with a range of additional needs.

The school supports pupils aged 7-13 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated diagnoses including ASD, ADHD, attachment needs, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and sensory processing difficulties. Class sizes are small, with no more than 6 pupils per class, supported by teaching assistants and a strong pastoral team.

This role would suit a qualified teacher with proven experience delivering Science at GCSE level alongside strong experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs within either specialist or alternative provision settings.

The Role:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated Science lessons at GCSE level
  • Support pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs through structured and nurturing teaching approaches
  • Create a positive and safe learning environment that promotes engagement and progress
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and wider school staff to support pupil outcomes
  • Manage behaviour effectively using positive behaviour strategies
  • Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Support pupils during extracurricular activities, enrichment sessions and school trips

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Previous successful experience teaching Secondary Science at GCSE level
  • Strong experience working with pupils with SEMH needs within an educational setting
  • Excellent behaviour management skills and knowledge of SEMH strategies
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to professional development and inclusive education
  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
