Electrical Craftsperson
EQUANS is looking for an Electrical Craftsperson to work on the Pinderfields & Pontefract Hospital contract in Wakefield. This is a permanent full‑time role (40 hours per week) offering a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
General Overview
The post holder will work directly with Technical Supervisors to ensure safe and continuous operation of electrical engineering services and building plant as part of a flexible maintenance team that includes specialist subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical maintenance of all relevant assets, including fault diagnosis and parts sourcing, both from a planned preventative maintenance schedule and reactive work orders.
- Support, advise and enact policy and safe working procedures as a Competent Person (Electrical).
- Participate in the operation and control of all engineering planned maintenance schemes and undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities to plant and non‑medical equipment.
- Carry out fault finding on complex hospital infrastructure, including low‑voltage power and distribution systems, lighting (including emergency lighting), UPS, IPS supplies and standby generators, using cause‑effect analysis and relevant drawings.
- Commission and test planning, maintain reports and test certificates, and record all activity in CAFM systems.
- Provide feedback on PPM results and fire safety, monitor building services and report defects to Technical Supervisors.
- Supervise, communicate and develop other trades staff and assess the quality of work.
- Maintain safety compliance with Statutory Regulation, CDM, Good Practice, and EQUANS guidelines, compiling procedures, monitoring standards and maintaining records.
- Carry out emergency repairs as required (overtime may be needed); undertake training to learn new techniques and technology.
- Engage with wards/departments to brief and ensure satisfactory completion of planned or reactive works.
- Participate in shift rosters, including unsocial hours, for which a shift allowance is paid.
Impact
The aim is to operate and maintain a physical environment where healthcare can be delivered, covering building fabric, plumbing, electrical, mechanical services, and medical gases. Compliance with statutory requirements, HTM, and Q/A is essential.
Complexity
- Work in accordance with Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) and other statutory compliance requirements.
- Be certified as an Appointed Person in low‑voltage electrical critical systems, with training, certification and reassessment every three years.
- Act as a Competent Person (Electrical) to support and advise policy and safe working procedures.
- Use Building Management Systems (BMS) and record planned and reactive maintenance electronically.
- Understand the relationships between other maintenance crafts.
- Familiarise with contract KPIs to ensure compliance and effective service delivery.
Qualifications & Required Experience
- Recognised Electrical/Engineering Apprenticeship – HNC, ONC, City & Guilds, or equivalent experience.
- BS7671 (18th Edition) experience.
- Must obtain Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain right‑to‑work in the UK.
