Overview
Mechanical Technician based in Culham, Oxfordshire (on site). 12‑month contract, hourly rate £35 (umbrella, maximum). Inside IR35.
Responsibilities
Assist the Assembly Team during shutdowns, including preparation for shutdown activities. Support general mechanical tasks within the Systems Unit when required, covering vacuum, cooling, pressurised and electro‑magnetic systems. Construct and maintain new and existing systems, perform fault finding and repair, supervise mechanical fitters and junior craft staff, and document processes, procedures, and safe systems of work. Participate in large installation programmes during shutdowns and interventions to maximise efficiency and availability of systems during operations. Provide support for large scale projects such as in‑vessel works, centre column and TF circuits, and cooling systems. Promote and maintain high safety standards, monitoring risk assessments and keeping areas tidy and under control.
Qualifications & Experience
- Served a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience in an industrial setting, specifically mechanical assembly and maintenance.
- Knowledge of vacuum systems and electrical work is desirable.
- Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques.
- Experience operating under a written safe system of work / method statements / risk assessments.
