Self employed

We are looking for an outstanding teacher of singing to join our talented team of visiting music teachers at the Prep School from September.

The role

The successful candidate will be an outstanding musician and be ready to work enthusiastically with children, often beginners, aged 7-11. Experience and empathy with this age group is essential.

The school has a thriving music department with over 70 girls having lessons in school each week, and a wide range of orchestral and ensemble experiences on offer. As the role develops, there may also be opportunities — shaped by the appointee’s interests and skills — to support and lead our school choirs and to establish small vocal ensembles.

You will be engaged on a self-employed basis, term time only. You will be responsible for creating your own timetable, in line with school guidelines, to ensure weekly lessons of 30 minutes are taught to your pupils. The number of pupils will vary due to demand.

Oxford High Prep School is a happy and vibrant place to work. The school provides a broad and inspiring education through its curriculum and ethos. Our girls are highly motivated and behaviour is excellent. From our youngest reception pupils through to Year 6, there is a sense of pride at being part of the Oxford High community. It was rated as excellent in all areas in its recent ISI inspection. We are a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, a national federation of 26 schools. The music department is popular and active. There are currently two orchestras, a wind band, and smaller chamber ensembles run by visiting music teachers as the demand requires. The Music Department is staffed by a Director of Music and 10 visiting music staff, some of whom also work at the Senior School site.

Further details of the position and the application form are available by clicking on the apply button.

Completed application forms and a covering letter addressed to the Director of Music, Mrs Sinead Andrews.

The closing date is midnight on Monday 20th April.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 28th April.
