Housekeeping Assistant – Band 2
Job overview
We are looking for housekeepers to join our existing team. You will play a key role in ensuring all areas of the hospital, including wards and other patient areas, are kept to the highest standards of hygiene and appearance.
Main duties of the job
- Using a variety of modern and advanced cleaning equipment to make sure our wards and other patient areas are cleaned to the highest possible standards.
- Full range of cleaning duties including vacuuming, mopping and hydrogen peroxide vapour. All equipment used has been tested and chosen by existing housekeeping teams.
- Some roles may require the use of specialist personal protective equipment.
- Preparation and serving of patient meals and refreshments as part of a team.
- Following ward or department cleaning schedules.
- Diluting cleaning chemicals and following set procedures being mindful of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
- Workload is flexible and locations can change per shift including between wards and non‑ward areas.

Person specification
Qualifications (Academic, Professional & Vocational)
- Basic general secondary education in English and Maths.
- Knowledge of cleaning and food handling procedures.
- Knowledge of COSHH and food hygiene procedures; induction and job training.
- NVQ Level 2 Support Services or equivalent.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Previous Experience (Nature & Level)
- Must be able to demonstrate previous experience of housekeeping in a domestic environment.
- Previous experience of Housekeeping.
- Customer Service training.
- Knowledge of/training in Moving/Handling techniques.
Evidence of Particular: Knowledge, Skills, Aptitudes
- Use of initiative in problem solving.
- Ability to prioritise tasks.
- Understanding of/training in COSHH.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- High standard of interpersonal skills.
- Positive approach to team working and/or lone working.
- Literacy, numeracy and comprehension of written instructions sufficient to follow instructions on cleaning chemical containers.
- Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda.
- Evidence of key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework: Patient‑Centred, Safety, Compassion, Respect and Excellence.
