About The Job

Hours per week: 2.09 (Saturday mornings)

Contract type: Permanent

In this role, you’ll deliver high-quality woodwind teaching to pupils of all abilities, from complete beginners through to experienced musicians. You’ll work with groups, leading ensembles of varying sizes and helping students develop their skills, confidence, and enjoyment of music.

A key part of the role will involve conducting and directing a wide range of ensembles, including woodwind groups, saxophone ensembles, orchestral sectionals, funk bands, and beginner recorder or woodwind groups. You’ll bring energy and structure to rehearsals, creating an environment where students can progress while enjoying making music together.

You’ll draw on your experience as both a performer and teacher to plan and deliver engaging sessions across a variety of musical styles. Alongside teaching, you’ll manage your time effectively within agreed schedules and contribute to a well‑organised and supportive team environment.

Communication plays an important part in the role, as you’ll regularly interact with pupils, parents, and colleagues. There may also be occasional requirements to work outside of standard music school hours, for example for performances or events, agreed in advance.

Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

About You

You’ll have demonstrable experience of playing and teaching woodwind instruments, with the ability to support both beginner and more advanced pupils. Your background will include a range of experience as a performer and teacher, giving you confidence in a variety of musical and educational settings.

You’re comfortable leading and directing ensembles, with the ability to conduct groups such as woodwind ensembles, saxophone groups, orchestral sections, and beginner ensembles. You’re organised, able to manage your time effectively, and communicate clearly and positively with pupils, parents, and staff.

Ideally, you’ll also have the ability to play double reed instruments, adding further versatility to your teaching. You’ll have a strong understanding of instrumental technique and repertoire, along with an appreciation for a wide range of musical styles including funk, jazz, pop, classical, and folk.

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.
