Job Overview
The main focus of the job is to process financial information for a large acute hospital, working unsupervised to complete necessary returns and collaborate with other departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and organise the cashiers office for a Trust with annual account turnover of nearly two million pounds in cheques and one million in cash.
- Bank, input and balance cash, cheques and credit card income for a large hospital site with annual turnover of approximately three million.
- Balance daily and monthly petty cash (approx £150,000) and manage charitable fund donations over a million pounds annually.
- Order and issue train and flight tickets for staff, checking requests and handling issues for over 50 travel arrangements annually valued at £3,500.
- Approve invoices electronically and liaise with external company to resolve queries.
- Stock and issue FP10 pads (prescriptions) to hospitals and maintain security procedures, issuing about 400 annually.
- Liaise with solicitors and insurance companies regarding payments received.
- Maintain accurate, audit‑ready documentation for all transactions.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Experience in banking procedures and data entry.
- Customer‑facing experience with excellent telephone manner.
- Several years’ experience in a cashiering role, ideally with banking experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage difficult telephone conversations.
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with a wide range of staff members.
- Knowledge of NHS policies and procedures.

Several years’ experience in a cashiering role type function, ideally with banking experience.
