About the Role
The SEN Teaching Assistant supports teachers and the wider support team to assist pupils with special educational needs both inside and outside the classroom. Candidates may work with students with autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them remain engaged, confident and supported throughout the day.
Responsibilities
- Support students with SEN on a one‑to‑one basis and in small groups
- Assist the class teacher with adapting learning activities to meet individual needs
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Build supportive relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence
- Help maintain a safe, structured and inclusive classroom environment
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm, patient and adaptable approach
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
