Full time – 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, shifts 2pm -10pm

What You’ll Do As a Hospital Porter

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Transport patients safely and respectfully between wards, departments and clinical areas using wheelchairs, trolleys, beds or walking support when required.
  • Move equipment and furniture across the site to support hospital operations, ensuring correct storage, cleanliness and safe use.
  • Carry out non‑patient portering tasks including transporting medical specimens, pharmaceutical products, blood products, medical gases and confidential medical records.
  • Support waste management by safely moving and disposing of clinical, general, confidential, sharps and bulky waste in line with infection control procedures.
  • Handle mail, goods and materials, ensuring secure and efficient distribution across the hospital.
  • Follow all health, safety and infection‑control procedures, reporting any faults, incidents or hazards promptly and accurately.

  • Experience working in a manual‑handling or customer‑facing role.
  • The physical ability to meet the demands of a busy hospital environment, including pushing, pulling and long periods of standing.

Vetting And Checks

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
