Bank Worker – Switchboard Operator

Job responsibilities

  • Deal with client queries politely and professionally, maintaining exceptional customer service and upholding the Trust’s professional image.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Handle complex issues quickly and efficiently, prioritising clients.
  • Manage telephone and email enquiries and maintain accurate client records in the computer database.
  • Manage all queries from customers in accordance with processes and guidelines.
  • Keep up to date with treatment knowledge.
  • Assist and support other team members.
  • Support new starters with information and advice on call directions, including listening in after induction.
  • Answer all incoming calls in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Announce callers when transferring and take accurate messages for distribution.
  • Perform ad‑hoc front‑desk duties as required.

Person specification

Education, qualifications and training

  • GCSE (Grade C or above) in English and Maths or equivalent.

Knowledge & experience

  • Experience of working within an office environment.
  • Experience of working with multiple computer systems.
  • Experience working within a switchboard environment.
  • Experience managing workload to meet deadlines and standards.
  • Experience working within a reception environment.

Skills & abilities

  • Ability to make decisions within defined boundaries.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently within procedural guidelines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage own workload.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and its place in the NHS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and colleagues across a range of issues.
