Job responsibilities

The role plays a critical part in safeguarding patients, staff & the public by ensuring security services are delivered in full compliance with Trust policies, local operational procedures, emergency procedures and contingency plans.

Operational responsibilities include monitoring the control room, responding to incident and fire alarms, managing access control systems, overseeing patient, visitor and vehicle movements, and ensuring patients are accounted for at all times.

Accurate record‑keeping is essential, including logging confiscated items, lost property, incident reports, and producing chronological event logs when required.

The post holder supports visitor management processes, facilitates social and official visits, maintains access‑control databases, supervises child visits in line with risk assessments, and undertakes escort duties where required. Participation in designated search teams, including passive and active dog deployments, is part of the security function.

Additional duties include screening all visitors, contractors, staff and vehicles prior to entry, ensuring only authorised individuals gain access to the secure perimeter; undertaking security checks and patrols, testing perimeter systems, securing contractor sites, and maintaining key control processes through daily inspections and audit activity.

Qualifications

  • Educated to secondary school standards
  • Knowledge/experience of working in a service where security is of major importance
  • Customer Service experience

Experience

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to maintain a positive approach under pressure
  • Act with appropriate initiative and sensitivity, with full regard to confidentiality under a wide variety of circumstances
  • Observant and alert, with a thorough approach to work

Knowledge

  • Reasonable knowledge/experience of IT databases such as Word and Excel, plus relevant keyboard skills
  • Ability to work on own or within a team

  • Good organisational and administrative skills
  • Experience of working and implementing changes in accordance with new regulations, protocols, policies, and procedures; capability to maintain a high level of concentration

  • Working knowledge of Broadmoor specific security policies, local operational and emergency procedures

Other Requirements

  • Require undertaking PMVA teamwork training
  • Ability to work night duty and weekends, including bank holiday

Salary

£30,630 to £32,346 per annum, inclusive of allowances.
