We are looking for a reliable and self‑motivated Food Service Assistant/Cook to join our team on a 20‑hour contract. This role consists of 2 tea shifts and 2 night shifts per week and is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently in a fast‑paced catering environment.

This is a lone‑working role, so confidence, organisation, and the ability to manage your own workload are essential. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and finishing food made by the daytime team, serving customers, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring the kitchen and service areas remain clean and organised throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and finish food produced by the daytime kitchen team
  • Serve customers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene
  • Ensure all hot food is held and served at the correct temperatures
  • Complete cleaning duties and maintain a tidy working environment
  • Monitor stock levels and report any shortages
  • Follow company policies and procedures at all times
  • Open and close the service area independently

Skills & Experience

  • Previous catering, kitchen, or food service experience preferred
  • Comfortable working independently and managing lone shifts
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Basic food hygiene knowledge
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work under pressure

  • 20 hours per week
  • 2 tea shifts
  • 2 night shifts
  • Flexibility may be required to support the business needs

Job Description

  • Food Preparation – prepare and cook dishes according to the recipes and standards set by the head/sous chef; ensuring food safety standards are adhered to at all times
  • Station Management – oversee the production of all food items assigned to your station and upkeep your designated area with supplies and ensure cleanliness in line with policies and procedures
  • Quality Control – maintain high quality standards for all food handled, ensuring presentation and taste is considered at all times
  • Team Collaboration – communicate effectively with all other team members and assist/support all colleagues where necessary
  • Cleaning and Maintenance – maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen ensuring equipment is in good working order

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working as a Commis Chef or display a real passion for food
  • Knowledge of some cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Works according to the BaxterStorey core values
