Role: CNC Operator – Miller & Programmer / Setter Operator

Location: Harlow

Hours: Full time

Salary: £17.00 per hour

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a CNC Miller – Programmer / Setter Operator to join our client’s successful team.

Duties of a CNC Miller – Programmer / Setter Operator

  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines in line with job specifications and production requirements.
  • Program, edit, and optimise CNC programs using Siemens or Heidenhain controls.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and machining instructions.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and cutting materials for each job.
  • Perform machine set ups, tool changes, and offsets to ensure accurate machining.
  • Monitor machining operations and inspect components to ensure quality standards and tolerances are met.
  • Carry out first‑off inspections and make adjustments where required.
  • Work with a range of materials including aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel.
  • Maintain a safe and organised working environment in line with company procedures.
  • Assist with continuous improvement and production efficiency initiatives where required.

What we would like from you

  • Technical Expertise: Previous experience operating and setting CNC milling machines, with strong knowledge of Siemens or Heidenhain controls.
  • Programming Experience: Ability to programme, set, and operate CNC milling machinery independently.
  • Industry Experience: Typically 2‑5 years of hands‑on experience within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Engineering Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and technical specifications.
  • Tooling Knowledge: Strong understanding of cutting tools, speeds and feeds, materials, and machining processes.
  • Measurement Skills: Competent using measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to producing high‑quality precision components with excellent accuracy.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify machining issues and make adjustments to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Physical & Safety Requirements: Ability to work safely within a workshop environment whilst following PPE and health & safety procedures.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn new machinery, processes, and production methods as required.
