Job overview

The pharmacy technician provides pharmaceutical services in the outpatient pharmacy department ensuring efficient and high quality customer experience is maintained.

The post holder will be working for Royal Free London Pharmacy, a wholly owned subsidiary of the RFL Group. The post holder will be part of a high performing team that is expected to demonstrate behaviours that promote the outpatient pharmacy and Royal Free London values. This means that in undertaking this role the post holder is expected at all times to behave in a way that demonstrates commitment to the delivery of respectful and compassionate care as described below.

The post holder will be mainly based at the Royal Free Hospital which is a busy and dynamic tertiary care centre.

We are looking for applicants for both band 4 and 5 Pharmacy Technician roles.

The Pharmacy Services of the Royal Free London are constantly evolving to best meet the needs of patients and our healthcare colleagues and partners and this may lead to providing a full and comprehensive Pharmaceutical support over 7 days a week.

LOCATION OF WORKING

The appointment is not designated to one place. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or more permanent basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As shown in person specifications for both the band 4 and band 5 roles. If you are successful at being shortlisted you will be interviewed and assessed for the grade being offered.

Education

  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.
  • Registered with the GPhC

Experience

  • Demonstrate ability to dispense accurately.
  • Demonstrate ability to counsel and give advice to patients/carers on medication.
  • Experience/knowledge of the principles of stock control.
  • Experience of working in an NHS hospital environment.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft software products.
  • Previous experience in an outpatient pharmacy setting
  • Previous assessable experience/understanding of JAC Pharmacy computer system.

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Ability to provide a sensitive and professional service to patients and patient families and healthcare professionals
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including written English
