We’re looking for a warm, resilient, and committed individual to join our team at MJ Children’s Services. You’ll provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in our residential homes — helping each child feel safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential emotionally, socially, and educationally.
Key responsibilities
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people
- Provide emotional support, structure, and clear boundaries to promote positive behaviour
- Assist with daily routines, including meals, personal care, education, activities, and bedtimes
- Support young people in developing life skills, independence, and resilience
Safeguarding & protection
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each young person at all times
- Follow all safeguarding procedures and report concerns in line with policy
- Manage challenging behaviour using approved de‑escalation and positive behaviour strategies
- Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, incident reports, and care plans
- Support review of care and placement plans alongside other professionals
- Comply with Ofsted standards and the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
Teamwork & communication
- Work as part of a team to deliver consistent, child‑centred care
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, supervisions, and training
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, professionals, and families
- Plan and facilitate fun, educational, and therapeutic activities
- Support young people in accessing education, appointments, and community resources
- Promote positive routines, hobbies, and opportunities for growth

What We’re Looking For:
- Genuine passion for working with young people
- Ability to form trusting, professional relationships
- Emotional resilience under pressure
- Flexibility for shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Full UK driving licence
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards within 2 years)
- Previous experience in residential, school, or support settings
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice and child development
