Overview
Teacher – Primary – responsible for curriculum, lesson planning, teaching, assessment, and supporting students’ well‑being in a Northern Ireland school.
Reporting to
Principal.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
- Teach pupils, setting and marking work.
- Assess, record, and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
- Promote pupils’ general progress, well‑being and provide advice on educational and social matters.
- Communicate and consult with parents and relevant outside agents.
- Participate in meetings and committees related to curriculum, organisation, pastoral and safeguarding matters.
- Contribute to oral and written assessments and report writing.
- Engage in staff development and performance review schemes.
- Review teaching methods and programmes, and pursue further training.
- Maintain good order and discipline, safeguard health and safety of pupils.
- Assist in preparing pupils for public examinations.
- Support review, development and management of curriculum, organisation and pastoral activities.
- Supply cover and supervise children where required.
Qualifications and Professional Membership
- Teaching qualification recognised by the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching Primary 6 or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience in using a range of effective classroom strategies for all abilities, including SEN.
- Experience utilising digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before taking up the post.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum and SEND Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and child protection.
- Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
- Ability to use initiative, solve problems, demonstrate flexibility.
