Overview

Positive Behaviour Senior Support Worker – Location: BLUEJAY, Cornford Lane, Pembury, Kent

Hours of Work: Full-Time (40 hours per week). Shift work across a 7 day week with 3 non-consecutive days off and alternate weekends.

Must be a driver and hold a UK driving licence.

Hourly Rate: £15.16 per hour.

About The Role

Aspens Charities supports individuals with autistic spectrum conditions, learning disabilities and physical disabilities across Kent and Sussex. Bluejay is a newly refurbished PBS service serving one individual living on-site within an open plan kitchen, living and dining area, two bedrooms with en-suites, a separate office and staff toilet. The role is to work within a PBS framework, supporting the individual in line with positive behaviour support planning and team supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Help the individual stay in contact with family and arrange visits
  • Provide a wide range of sensory activities
  • Advocate for the individual, helping access new activities
  • Offer support with confidence, including during times of distress
  • Provide full attention to the individual during support

Qualities and Requirements

  • Being consistent and maintaining boundaries
  • Having a sense of humour and being able to take a joke
  • Being confident and able to motivate
  • Being good at de-escalating moments of stress
  • Being fit and active
  • Willingness to participate in community activities (e.g., badminton, swimming, football, gym)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to follow behaviour support plans and contracts
  • Experience in de-escalation and keeping calm in difficult moments
  • Excellent communication skills including Makaton signing and Picture Exchange Communication systems (training will be given)
  • Willingness to complete activities that the person supported enjoys; sourcing new activities
  • Ability to maintain a budget and be organised with workload prioritisation
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and supervise PBS support staff

We are looking for energetic, hard-working individuals with experience of supporting people with complex needs and PBS. Training and accredited qualifications will be provided to develop the team’s skills. An expectation is to be part of the wider PBS team and support in additional services as needed.
