We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic General Internal Medicine Consultant with a Specialist Interest to join our dynamic department as part of service expansion. The successful appointee will support high‑quality inpatient and outpatient General Internal Medicine services at University Hospital Coventry and St Cross Hospital in Rugby, and provide care in a specialist service within UHCW.
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is rated as good by the Care Quality Commission and is one of the largest teaching Trusts in the UK.
Responsibilities
- Providing, in collaboration with colleagues, a comprehensive General Internal Medicine service to patients in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond, ensuring all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner; and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are always maintained.
- The appointee will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver the service in the Trust and in the community setting.
- Undertake unselected ward rounds of the inpatients on outlier wards.
- Take responsibility for patients under their care.
- Provide a consultation and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
- Participate in the development of the GIM medicine treatment protocols and guidelines and expand knowledge in the management of conditions.
- Participate in the General Medicine on‑call rota and ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out of normal working hours.
- Participate in the education and training of medical students, trainee doctors, nursing and other personnel as appropriate. Interest and experience in undergraduate teaching is essential. This includes pre‑clinical and clinical students from WMS.
Qualifications
Full attendance and completion of identified training and development opportunities, such as Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training and the Human Factors Programme, is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.
