Grounds Maintenance Operative

Responsibilities

Maintain the upkeep of external communal areas, including grass, shrubs, hedges, soft landscaping, and minor tree work.

Employ hand tools and powered horticultural machinery to cut grass and hedges, maintain borders, clear leaves, spray, pick litter, and ensure all sites meet high standards.

Report to management about site hazards and operate vehicles, machinery, and equipment in accordance with health and safety procedures. Undertake additional training as required.

Work independently and as part of a team across the organisation’s contracts, offices, properties, and sites, primarily between Liss and Waterlooville, driving a van and performing manual work.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Full UK driving licence (company vehicle supplied)
• Awareness of large‑wheelbase van and, ideally, towing licence/experience (desirable)
• Practical amenity horticultural knowledge and experience
• PA1 and PA6AW qualifications (desirable, but not essential)
• NPTC certification or equivalent (desirable, but not essential)
• Physically fit and able to lift and move materials
• Good timekeeping
• Outgoing customer‑service approach
• Good communication skills
• Adaptability
• Ability to operate a handheld PDA to log visits (training will be provided)
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Ability to take direction and work on own initiative

Hours and Pay

• 40 hours per week
• Long‑term temporary role
• Hourly pay (PAYE + holiday pay)
