Job Overview

We are looking for a talented Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team specialising in Manufacturing for our Darlington Technical Organisation in Darlington, United Kingdom.

This is a permanent role, fully onsite, working a rotational shift pattern:

Shift Pattern

  • Monday – Friday 6.00am to 2.00pm
  • Monday – Friday 2.00pm to 10.00pm
  • Monday – Friday 10.00pm to 6.00am

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high availability and reliability of test cells and supporting plant by proactively maintaining and repairing equipment across the facility.
  • Rapidly diagnose and resolve test cell breakdowns in line with shift priorities to ensure testing can continue with minimal disruption.
  • Optimise test cell performance by prioritising development test cells to support efficient and effective engine testing.
  • Improve site productivity by independently planning, prioritising, and delivering maintenance activities aligned with operational objectives.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by identifying risks, applying controls, and ensuring safe systems of work before undertaking repairs.
  • Act as a key technical liaison for the wider DTO team, providing practical advice on facility and test cell–related issues.
  • Lead and deliver small in‑house improvement projects, from problem definition through to implementation and successful completion.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying recurring facility issues, proposing robust solutions, and implementing approved enhancements.

Qualifications

  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving capability across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and software disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while making sound decisions in a fast‑paced, 24/7 operational environment.
  • Confidence working with contractors, including issuing permits to work, supervising activities, and ensuring full LOTO compliance.
  • A proactive, safety‑first mindset with the ability to balance operational urgency with quality, legal, and environmental requirements.

Education and Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds 2365 Level 3 (or equivalent).
  • BS 7671 18th Edition – Wiring Regulations.
  • HNC in a relevant engineering discipline (preferred).
  • Significant relevant experience in an industrial or manufacturing maintenance environment, with the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve complex systems.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is aligned with a local bargained or unionised agreement.

Licensing Requirements

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
