Category Manager

Job Overview

Category Manager – Hybrid working with up to 4 days per week. Locations: Angel Court – London, Brighton, Staines, Manchester or Leeds.

Permanent, full‑time, 37.5 hours per week. Salary £56,000 – £69,900 per annum.

Responsibilities

• Identify and deliver multiple cost‑saving initiatives to achieve individual and department targets.
• Lead supplier selection and qualification, and manage relationships with key suppliers using contemporary supplier relationship management techniques.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive category plan with a clear savings/opportunity pipeline.
• Establish category priorities based on benefits, opportunities and business requirements.
• Understand the strategic intent of Bupa UK and Group and align category plans with organisational goals.
• Develop and manage a category risk plan to mitigate supply‑chain risks.
• Actively set, lead and drive the timeline for sourcing initiatives.
• Lead contract negotiations, develop negotiation plans aligned with global strategies.
• Serve as an escalation point for Category Specialists and direct their activities with assistance from the Head of Procurement.
• Develop innovative solutions by challenging the status quo and ensuring alignment with procurement strategy.
• Participate in team and department meetings, communicate and advocate procurement throughout the organisation.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree (e.g., BA, BSc, MEng) or higher (e.g., MA).
• MCIPS or equivalent professional qualification.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• Category‑management experience in a related industry.
• Proven sourcing experience for similar products and services.
• Proven ability to deliver savings through strategic category planning.
• Experienced negotiator with fact‑based negotiation plans at senior level.
• Knowledge of relevant industry legislation, contracts and supply‑chain risk.
• Proficient drafting of contracts and familiarity with contract law.
• Recent experience leading cross‑functional or business‑unit teams.
• Proficient at drafting contracts and familiar with contract law.
