Junior Clinical Fellow in Clinical Research
TheJunior Clinical Fellow in Clinical Research is a key member of the Research and Development team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. This 12 month opportunityinvolves taking a lead role in recruitment and delivery of clinical research throughout the trust.
You will work alongside a team of Research Nurses and Governance colleagues. You will also work under the supervision of multiple Principal Investigators (usually consultant level) and the Director of Research and Development, Prof Anil Hormis
Main duties of the job
Thereis an expectation that the successful applicant will have prior NHS experienceand have the ability to work across multiple medical and surgical specialities,both adult and paediatric. However, a large proportion of current researchfocusses on Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, Respiratory Medicine andOncology. This post is well suited to those post-foundation or core training,wishing to gain research experience prior to applying to speciality training.
Therole provides opportunities to gain experience in clinical research, includingthe opportunity to complete the NIHR Associate PI Scheme. Previous fellows haveachieved publications across various specialities and had the opportunity toattend and present at medical conferences.
Furtheropportunities include both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience within the hospitals education department. The post also offers a study budget toattend courses relevant to your career interests.
Job responsibilities
The R&D Department is responsiblefor the research management, governance, support and leadership of all aspectsof research across the Trust and performs a variety of roles and functions todrive and deliver clinical research in the clinical pathway and foster a highvalue research-active culture.
The department is led by the Directorof Research and the Lead Research Nurse/R&D Manager, with a team ofResearch Nurses, Research Governance, Pharmacy and Laboratory colleagues.
Our R&D team work with manyexternal partners such as The University of Sheffield, Sheffield HallamUniversity and other commercial companies and grant awarding bodies.
The postholder will support the set up and delivery of the NIHR portfolio of researchacross the Trust, including being responsible for the day to day running of clinicaltrials and other research studies in the Trust, meeting with clinical teams,recruiting participants and completing study procedures and administrationaccording to REC/HRA approved study protocols.
There arealso opportunities to further develop leadership and management skills via theNIHR Associate PI training scheme, and attend conferences and investigatormeetings. The post holder will also be encouraged and supported to undertaketheir own project during this time.
Key Duties/Responsibilities
- Identifying and screen eligible patients
- Taking informed consent
- Providing clinical support for trials and research studies
- Reviewing and completing medical assessments
- Working collaboratively with the research nurses in providing specialist research and clinical care to research participants
- Prescribing of investigational medicinal products
- Data collection and capture
- Providing administrative and data management support
- Reporting of adverse events
- Responding to data queries
- Supporting the research team in the initiation and delivery of trials to time and target
- Ensuring that patient treatments, assessments, follow ups and data collection are coordinated and processed according to the appropriate research protocols
- To develop and maintain effective contacts with relevant stakeholders – local Principal Investigators, clinical teams, Sponsors, Regional Research Delivery Network
- To work at all times according to research study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Trust Policy
- To undertake any other duties, which may be required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and needs of the service
- To facilitate participant involvement we aim to meet patients where best meets their needs, this includes travelling across sites
Person Specification
Experience
- Previous NHS experience at Junior Clinical Fellow level.
- Clinical Research experience in the NHS.
Ability/skills
- Ability to make effective use of standard office computer systems,
- including word processing and
- A willingness to learn new skills and new software as required.
Research and Audit
- Post holder must be enthusiastic about clinical research.
- Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit.
- NIHR Good Clinical Practice training.
- Experience of recruiting to clinical research trials.
- Research
- interests and
- relevant research published in peer review journal.
Qualifications
- Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
- Please confirm your GMC number
- MBBS Medical Degree.
- Completion of Foundation competencies or equivalent.
