Job Overview

Consortium X is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a high-profile UK naval defence programme based at a major defence delivery hub in Bristol. The role supports the in-service sustainment of a flagship Royal Navy surface combatant fleet, operating within a structured client delivery team environment.

We are looking for a mechanical engineer with solid defence sector experience, comfortable working as a specialist within a regulated acquisition environment and engaging with industry partners and client stakeholders.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing mechanical engineering input to in-service support and sustainment activity across a major surface combatant programme.
  • Contributing to engineering governance, assurance and continual improvement, with a focus on supplier and product performance.
  • Engaging with prime contractors, design authorities and client stakeholders in technical reviews, working groups and assurance forums.
  • Supporting safety and airworthiness-related engineering activity across the wider Safety and Engineering function as required.
  • Operating within a regulated acquisition environment and contributing to platform-level engineering decisions.

Essential Experience

  • Mechanical engineering experience within the UK defence sector, with direct exposure to defence acquisition organisations, prime contractors or tier 1 defence suppliers.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting naval, maritime or surface fleet platforms.
  • Working knowledge of engineering governance, assurance frameworks and supplier performance management within a regulated acquisition environment.
  • Comfortable engaging with stakeholders across delivery teams and industry partners.
  • Active SC Clearance, or full UK eligibility to obtain and maintain SC.

Desirable

  • Previous embedded experience within a UK defence delivery hub.
  • Familiarity with UK defence standards, the CADMID lifecycle and defence safety governance frameworks.
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience contributing to safety case, airworthiness or assurance documentation.
