As a Work Coach in our Education, Skills and Work team, you’ll support individuals to build confidence, develop skills, and take meaningful steps towards employment both during custody and beyond release. You’ll provide tailored Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG), helping individuals identify realistic career pathways and overcome barriers. Your work will have real purpose – supporting rehabilitation, reducing reoffending, and creating a positive impact on communities by helping people prepare for life after release.

What you’ll do as a Work Coach

  • Deliver one‑to‑one and group sessions on employability, career planning, and effective disclosure.
  • Assess individuals’ skills, interests, and aspirations, developing tailored learning and career plans.
  • Support the development and regular review of learning plans, setting clear and achievable goals.
  • Provide guidance on education, training, and employment pathways based on labour market information and individual circumstances.
  • Deliver workshops on CV writing, interview preparation, and job search skills.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships and collaborate with education teams and stakeholders to support progression.

What you’ll bring

  • Hold a level 4 careers qualification or equivalent, or be willing to achieve one in post, fully funded by Serco.
  • Experience delivering careers advice, guidance, or employability support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate others.
  • The ability to work with individuals with complex needs in a structured environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a caseload and meet targets.
  • A resilient, adaptable approach and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Vetting and Checks

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.

What we offer

  • Holidays: 23 days plus bank holidays.
  • Pension: Up to 6% contributory pension scheme.
  • Training and development: Over 1,100 internal courses available, funding for qualifications and apprenticeships (including L3 Team Leader and L5 Operations Manager apprenticeships), mentoring opportunities, and a focus on internal progression.
  • Health and wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme, Bupa Anytime HealthLine, wellbeing app, 30% off at Serco‑managed leisure centres, and 24/7 access to a virtual GP service.
