Small Works Team Manager

Location & Coverage

Office base Birmingham Office.

Coverage Area: Midlands, South Wales, and South West of England. Regular travel throughout the region required.

Summary of Role

You will be responsible for overseeing and managing small-scale fire sprinkler installation, maintenance, and modification projects across the Midlands, South Wales and South West of England. Based in the Birmingham office, this role ensures compliance with British Standards, manages client relationships, coordinates technical teams, and leads a team of designers and project engineers to deliver high‑quality fire protection solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Lead and manage a team of designers and project engineers, providing mentorship, allocating workload, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a high‑performing culture.
  • Manage end‑to‑end delivery of small works sprinkler projects from assessment through completion, coordinating with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare quotations, scope of works, project specifications, and monitor progress while resolving technical or operational issues.
  • Ensure all sprinkler systems comply with BS EN 12845 and relevant British Standards and regulations.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine sprinkler requirements and support designers in developing compliant, cost‑effective solutions.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee installation quality and ensure proper commissioning of systems.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing technical advice on fire protection solutions and coordinating with facilities management teams.
  • Liaise with insurers, fire authorities, and certification bodies as required.
  • Ensure work complies with health and safety regulations, conduct risk assessments, and verify contractors hold appropriate certifications (BAFSA, LPCB, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, certification records, and financial records.
  • Manage project budgets, control costs, process invoices, and identify value engineering opportunities without compromising quality.

What we will need from you

  • Proven experience in fire sprinkler systems management or building operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of UK fire protection standards and regulations.
  • Project management experience in facilities or property management.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout the Midlands, South Wales and South West.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent technical problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Commercial awareness and budget management skills.
  • Coaching and mentoring capabilities.

You will be required to undertake a driving licence check, right to work check and may be required to undertake a DBS check as part of your job role at Hall & Kay.
