Job overview

Recruit Senior Clinical Fellows to join the Head & Neck ENT team within the Surgical Specialties division at UCLH. The post is available to start September 2027.

Main duties of the job

This role offers experienced trainees the opportunity to deliver primary surgery and post‑operative care in advanced head and neck surgical oncology. The post holder will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality care with enhanced recovery. Key responsibilities include:

  • Major ablative surgery of the upper aerodigestive tract
  • Harvest and transfer of autologous tissue for reconstruction
  • Participation in research, audit and service improvement projects within UCL collaborations
  • Develop clinical skills towards consultant/staff surgeon posts, preferably in academic institutions

Person specification

Professional Qualifications

  • Eligible for full GMC registration at appointment and hold a current licence to practice
  • MRCS or equivalent postgraduate diploma
  • Completion of specialist training in Otolaryngology, OMFS, General Surgery (with head and neck training) or Plastic Surgery (with head and neck training)
  • BDS or equivalent

Clinical Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years post‑graduate experience in Head and Neck surgery equivalent
  • Competence in clinical skills relevant to Head and Neck training
  • Experience at SpR level or equivalent
  • Experience in related specialties
  • ATLS/APLS/ALS or equivalent

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

  • Commitment to personal and professional development in Head and Neck
  • Demonstrable interest and understanding of Head and Neck surgery
  • Competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
  • Analytical/scientific thinking and clear logical approach
  • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • Extra-curricular activities and achievements relevant to Head and Neck surgery
  • Broad awareness inside and outside the specialty

Clinical Governance Audit and IT

  • Good understanding of hospital clinical data repositories and adequate IT skills
