Overview of Responsibilities

Salary for this role is £35,003 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days a week. This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire. The role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

As Maintenance & Compliance Technician, you will support the IED-TPM-MAC Manager in the day‑to‑day maintenance of technical plant and workshops across the site. You will assist other departments within the IED team at a hands‑on level, preparing materials for processing and basic maintenance of plant. This role combines practical hands‑on aspects with the development and implementation of procedural documentation to meet Quality Assurance, validation and regulatory requirements for the UKAEA’s asset management. You will engage in ensuring that preventative maintenance schedules (PMs) and corrective maintenance activities are completed efficiently to meet our ISO standards (ISO 9001 & ISO 55000). Knowledge of manufacturing methods, the ability to read engineering drawings, and the ability to write technical specifications are essential.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with the routine asset management programme database to ensure the completion of preventative and corrective maintenance for the site workshops and Special Techniques group plant.
  • Prepare Written Safe Systems of Work, local procedures, and method statements for maintaining the plant and general Examine, Maintain, Inspect and Test (EMIT) scheduled work.
  • Support the development and implementation of the site asset management project as additional facilities are introduced.
  • Maintain the local document library and associated folders.
  • Provide first‑line fault finding and rectification for mechanical corrective maintenance activities on equipment and plant.
  • Manage workshop and process waste correctly using the on‑site Waste IT system.
  • Handle stock taking and maintain correct levels of consumables and general service items to support project delivery.
  • Support process teams by preparing production items for processing.
  • Track production items from incoming, processing, and outgoing stages.
  • Schedules and oversees service engineer visits to site, and builds, maintains and manages supplier relationships.
  • Apply basic mechanical engineering theoretical skills to develop manufacturing and improvement projects, and suggest improvements to working processes and methods.

Qualifications

  • Engineering experience, including manufacturing, machining methods and quality inspection techniques.
  • Ability to interpret specification information from engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Typically educated to HNC level in a technical discipline, or equivalent qualification, with significant engineering experience.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good computing skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise written work for procedural and safety‑related documentation.
