Responsibilities
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the oversight, operation, maintenance and repair of the golf course irrigation system to ensure optimal turf health and playing conditions. This role plays a critical part in sustainable water management, system efficiency, cost-effective usage and environmentally‑conscious decision making in all aspects of irrigating.
- Operate and monitor the golf course irrigation system.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation components such as valves, sprinkler heads, pipes, leaks and pumps.
- Perform proactive, timely and routine system checks to identify leaks, coverage issues, and inefficiencies.
- Adjust irrigation schedules based on weather conditions, soil moisture levels, and turf requirements.
- Assist in hand watering of all surfaces based on collected moisture data.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and water usage.
- Support installation during construction and any upgrades of the irrigation system and components.
- Ensure compliance with water regulations and environmental best practices.
- Follow all health and safety procedures whilst working.
- Managing stock of parts/spares.
- Monitor moistures and ET rates.
- Responsible for the hygienic and safe upkeep of reservoirs including routine inspections, monitoring water levels and adhering to all safety regulations to ensure water quality and supply.
- Work constructively and efficiently with any irrigation consultant, contractor and the like the Club may choose to engage, as directed by the CM/GCM.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 3 years specific irrigation experience in a similar position
- Previous experience in TORO irrigation systems is highly desirable
- Understanding of turfgrass needs and water management principles
- Ability to read and understand irrigation plans and system layouts
- Understanding/experience of good Health and Safety practice and legislation
- Level 3 in Greenkeeping
- PA1/PA6 (UK pesticide certification)
- First Aid and H&S qualifications (e.g. Manual Handling)
